Paying facebook to promote facebook?
Any one else seen any interesting examples of using a facbook feature as part of a competition/brand awareness?
Seems very interesting the "underworld" is paying facebook for the advert, while at the same time "underworld" is actually promoting the new facebook feature, did they get a discount or are they just trying to be different?
And by the way "underworld" I have no interest it what ever "underworld" is so please try re targetting.

Air Miles drive me mad!
Oh the joys of using Air Miles! Why can't they just be simple?
Take this as a fine example:
LHR - LAX with Virgin Atlantic, who I have too many miles!
So I was looking at using some of these up for a summer (outside of school holidays, because I'm not daft, we all know you can't use any type of rewards when you really want to) trip to LA. So keeping my outward and return flight dates fixed here are my options for Virgin Atlantic.
Class/Ticket Type Cost Miles
Economy Full Ticket £563 0
Economy using miles £329 47 000
Economy Miles Plus Money £520 2 000
Premium Economy Full Ticket £986 0
Premium Economy Mile Plus Money £956 7 500
Premium Full Ticket + Miles Return £693 35 000
Drives me mad!!
Though do need to mention how nice the Virgin customer service agent was in helping me find these prices and actually telling me what was the best option.
Oh and while we are at it Virgin please stop sending me the wrong the flying club card.
Rant over!

The Magic of Local Social
So for some time my girlfriend has moaned (that could cost me) about how much time I spend tweeting, checking in etc and I've always said, well its part of my job (which it isn't really but its the best reason I could think of). Though over the last few months she has become hooked, and I'm pretty sure is checkin into places on foursquare as we approach them, just to gain more points than me. Last night showed the power of social in helping local business and hense the title "The Magic of Local Social".
I'm known for enjoying a beer or two, and will never say no to a large slab of red meat so 64th & Social on Clapham High Street is one of my favourite places to eat and drink. Do go and check it out (and check in), the steaks are amazing and the cocktails are a little too easy to knock back.
So last night we went for our usual dose of steak at 64th, and as always I checked in (and stole the mayorship back of the girlfriend!) and tweeted that I was looking forward to my steak. Straight away some one at 64th tweeted back offering me a free cocktail if I came to the bar, result.
What is such a simple act, made me feel rewarded for my loyalty to the bar, and probably cost next to nothing to do. Not to mention the amount of people I've told today, and the amount of tweets I tweeted in my cocktail state last night. I even got a 64th Black Card last night (drink discounts!) which I'm pretty sure will get heavily used in the near future.
But when will 64th create a foursquare special for me? Just incase they read this, heres a hint:
Claiming your venue or foursquare
Create a special for your foursquare users
Creating a deal with facebook places
Or if your looking for more traffic from search, try using Google Places
All this talk of steak has made me hungry... see you next week 64th!
